Fil'e Ferru (Acuavite di vinacce a la sarda) is the traditional Grappa of Sardinia. The name Fil'e Ferru means "iron wire" in Sardinian. In the past, illegal distillation was common in the countryside. To hide the Fil'e Ferru from authorities, it was buried outside the house. An iron wire was placed in the ground at the spot where it was buried to make it easier to find later.
